MIMD Architectures
activeComputer Architecture
The PEZY-SC3 is a Japanese MIMD many-core processor with 32,768 hardware
threads that supports true thread-level divergence, unlike SIMT GPUs which lose
efficiency under divergent control flow. This makes it potentially well suited
for irregular and branch-intensive workloads like genomics kernels and
wavefront alignment algorithms. Our research explores what workload classes
genuinely benefit from this execution model and how modifications to both the
programming model and microarchitecture could better support them.
